How Should My Audience Respond?

. Shocked
. Tension
. Sad
. Sympathetic

Summery Of My Plot Narrative -

Lee Jones a working class mid 30's male goes about his routine like he does everyday, set in a busy industrial city it's easy to find yourself getting caught up in the rat race and losing track of time. In missing the subway he'll soon find that one small change can be the result of a day of alternative endings.

Possibly Going To London

On the way home from sixth form in the car I was talking to my Dad about my media ideas, I had also told him about how in the next 3 weeks I need to start filming my short film so that if I'm not happy with it I'll have time to film more.
I started talking about how I was thinking of having my lead role miss the train, I said I'd probably have to film that scene in Norwich train station. I then jokingly said, "But it would be so good to film in London and film a subway." He actually surprised me (though not too much as my dad is amazing) when he said filming a London subway would actually be a good idea.
SO.....I've decided that when I start filming in the next few weeks I will film in Norwich and in the Norwich train station so I know what I want and the scenes I would need to re-film in London so when i got there I'd know EXACTLY what to do and not flail around like a fish out of water (I do like my metaphors).

Hopefully I WILL get to film in London ^v^/ fingers crossed.

Death Note Camera Angles

Death Note Subway Scene

In the screen shots above as well as the actor walking towards the camera, the camera also moves closer.
Thinking about the idea I have for my short story, one of the main events would be the lead character missing the train/ subway. The first thing that came to my head when I thought about that was this scene from 'The Death Note', unlike my idea Raye Penber (the character in the film) doesn't miss the subway I just really love the way they show him getting on and off the subway with all the angles. With each of the screen shots (and knowing the story) you can tell roughly what is happening, this is the kind of thing I want to do and want my final piece to look like.

Audience Theory - What Do I look For In Films?

I would say I came under the category of 'Impressionable Socialite' according to Pete Buckingham's audience theory, this means male/females under 25 that like blockbusters but are normally led by ads.
Due to the fact i'm an 18 year old female, people would probably expect me to like rom coms and main stream films. But personally I like many different genres like action, horror, sci-fi and foreign films. I love films for the feel of getting taken to a whole new place as a release, when watching a film I can't normally hear anything around me I get so engrossed and so if it does that it'sa good film.

Audience Theory - Demographics Categorising Audiences/ Target Audience

It's important to know your audience when creating a film, there are certain categories the audience will come under. They would be....
. Age
. Class
. Religion
. Earnings
. Education
. Gender
. Ethnicity

You'd need to take each category into account when creating a film so you know what to add to fit your audience specification.

Wealth, Employment & Education

A - 100k± earnings

B - 50k/60k earnings / graduate / 35k± / employed/ careers

C1 - graduate / 35k± / employed / careers

C2 - training --> jobs / school level education

D -  training --> jobs / school level education

E - NEET / students / retired / unemployed

Above is a class of audience beginning with upper class down to lower class, this system used for product placement, marketing and promotion, focus groups, creating target.
An example of this is if you want to advertise a film and your target audience are students/ unemployed then the best time to advertise is during the day as they will be the only once watching. This is also good because you're able to advertise later for a different audience, and it's cheaper  to advertise during the day.

My own target audience: C2 - Male - Working Class

For my short film the target audience I'm hoping to attract is young male adults, above a picture of SHINee (a korean boy group) with ages ranging from 19-23. This is because my short film will be based around working, and I'm aware that younger males can work too that's not the point. I chose older males because it's about that time you may have finished education and are coming into full time employment, work becomes a big part of your life. The message of this story being 'there's more to life than work' you need to make sure you create that balance which some people may find difficult to do.
